PETER HOPKINS 2004 PRESS RELEASE

Peter Hopkins will exhibit recent paintings in the South Gallery.  A reception for the artists will be held on Saturday, July 10 from 6 to 8 PM.  The gallery is located at 916 Colorado Avenue in Santa Monica.

In the South Gallery, Peter Hopkins will exhibit new paintings using unconventional material to create vibrant, seductive works that allude the human figure.  His surfaces incorporate sheer fabrics, holographic foils, as well as household, industrial, and medical supplies – products from contemporary life, or what he calls social fluids.

Hopkins, who works in Brooklyn, has shown at Documenta IX, The 44th Corcoran Biennial, the Whitney Museum of American Art and Musee d’Art Moderne et Contemporain, Geneva, among many other institutions. Currently, a catalog of his work is being produced with a forward written by, curator, Jan Hoet.  He has shown with Christopher Grimes Gallery since 1993.
