BERND MECHLER AND ESTER PARTEGÁS

2006 PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Bernd Mechler and Ester Partegás to exhibit at CHRISTOPHER GRIMES GALLERY.

Christopher Grimes Gallery is pleased to announce Bernd Mechler’s first exhibition within the United States entitled Inner Interiours. Mechler will present a number of astoundingly unusual and vibrantly colorful new abstract paintings.

Using a premeditated palette of intense yet evenly valued hues dispensed across a white ground, Mechler’s paintings are engaging and seductive to the eye. His graffiti-like use of negative and positive space allows his work to grow organically. Mechler begins with volumes of color that he ultimately guides into a harmonious composition, carefully balancing shapes and forms, tints and hues of soft and smooth color, throughout his canvases.

Born in Mannheim, Mechler studied at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf. He has participated in numerous exhibitions, most recently at the Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf, Germany and Via Senese, 100 Jahre Villa-Romans at Kunstraum Fuhrwerkswaage in Köln. His work has been featured in various shows at institutions throughout Europe such as the Katharinenhof Museum in Kranenburg, the Heinsberg Kunstverein as well as at the Mark Müller Gallery in Zurich. Last year he participated in the group show The Devil’s Punchbowl curated by Katharina Grosse and presented at Christopher Grimes Gallery.

Ester Partegás, in her first West Coast solo exhibition, will create a room-sized installation in the South Gallery. Partegás will showcase four critically minded photographic compositions, expressing overarching concern for commercialization, consumerism and the growing culture of wastefulness pours into her artwork with heated flair and disturbing allure.

Ester Partegás was born in La Garriga, Spain. She lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Partegás has exhibited her work in several group and solo shows such as Outer City, Inner Space at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, Samesation at Rice University Art Gallery, Houston, Texas and Fixed and Hazardous Objects at Virginia Commonwealth University in Virginia.
