An Involved Story, 1998, polyvinyl acetate, pigment, acrylic and graphite on raw cotton canvas, 116 x 74-3/4 inches, 295 x 190 cm. Collection of Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, Lisbon, Portugal

Julião Sarmento is featured in the exhibition, Portugal em Flagrante, at Museu Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon, Portugal. This semi-permanent exhibition presents works from Museu Calouste Gulbenkian’s Modern Collection and is designed to offer an introduction to the history of art and culture in Portugal during the twentieth century. It is the first comprehensive presentation of this collection for more than 25 years and shows a representative selection of works by Portuguese artists, produced both in Portugal and abroad, alongside various pieces by international artists. The exhibition is spread over the three main galleries, presented as Operation 1, 2 and 3. On each floor there is a chronological progression, from the beginning of the twentieth century to the present day. The three operations have been unveiled over the course of several months, with the final Operation (Operation 3) opening in March 2017.

Sarmento's work is featured in Operation 2 of Portugal em Flagrante, and will be on view through November 18, 2017.
