Ulrich Wüst will participate in documenta 14, opening April 8 in Athens, Greece and June 10 in Kassel, Germany. Exhibited works will include Flachland (2013) and selections from the Stadtbilder series (1979-1983).  Flachland, which translates to flat land, is a leporello comprised of 179 photographs of a vintage newspaper from the German Democratic Republic found by Wüst years after the dissolution of the communist state.  Featuring communist propaganda photos and headlines, Flachland acts as a memory album of the GDR. The installation will be on view at the Athens Conservatoire (commonly referred to as the Odeion) through July 16.

Selections from the Stadtbilder series will be on view in Kassel from June 10 through September 17, 2017. The Stadtbilder series, which translates to cityscapes, is a portrait of the Socialist approach to urban planning in East Germany in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Also on view in Kassel are the Morgenstrasse series (1998-2000) and Landlust—Die Gemeinde Nordwestuckermark 2014–2016 (Land lust: The municipality
of Nordwestuckermark 2014–16).

Concurrent with documenta 14, Christopher Grimes Gallery will present Stadtbilder | Nachlass, Wüst's first exhibition with the gallery, on view May 6 through June 17, 2017.
